Why is being a Mother so Exhausting?

I remember growing up and thinking why is my mom so tired all the time? It wasn't until I became a mother myself that I realized motherhood is the most exhausting job in the world! The moment the title of Mother finds its way into your resume is the exact moment you start losing sleep. Your entire life now revolves around a tiny human that depends 100% on you to survive. In the beginning you lose sleep due to feedings, diaper changes, teething, and the dreaded sleep regression phase. Then starts the toddler stage where you physically have to wrangle your child into his bed and then continually watch the baby monitor like a security guard to make sure your child doesn't sneak out of bed to have a midnight playdate with his toys. Let's not forget during the day when you constantly have to entertain your kids with new and exciting toys or activities. The constant cleaning and when I say constant I mean 24/7. How are kids so messy? They can literally destroy a house in minutes. Its like their super power. I feel like I clean the same things over and over everyday. Then there is the cooking. Who knew it would be so hard to decided what to cook for dinner every night? If you're anything like me you probably feel like you eat the same thing everyday. It is a constant battle to find new things my entire family will enjoy. And then my favorite aspect of motherhood..... the lack of privacy. I never thought I would find myself begging my husband to watch the baby for 2 minutes so I can use the bathroom by myself, but here I am. And I wouldn't trade this life for anything else. Don't get me wrong sometimes I need a little break or some self care time, but nothing compares to being a mama.

All the exhaustion, sleepless nights, lack of privacy, and the constant feeling of being someones maid means you are rocking motherhood. Your family survives because of you. Mothers hold it all together! Yes motherhood is the hardest job you'll ever have, but it is also the most rewarding. Every time I see my little man smile or laugh it makes my heart swell with joy. Joy that I have never experienced before in my life. So yes I will continue to be tired, clean like a maid, and be my family's personal chef because it's the best job in the world.
